Easy Coffee Essential Oil Bath Bomb Recipe (with Real Coffee)

Coffee essential oil bath bomb recipe for a cozy, caffeinated soak.

A few times a month, I reach for my homemade coffee scrub during my self-care routine. There’s something magical about that warm, roasted aroma paired with gentle exfoliation—it leaves my skin feeling smooth, refreshed, and just a little more alive. Coffee has a way of waking things up (skin included), and I love how it turns an ordinary bath into a mini reset.

But here’s the honest part: scrubs take time.

Some days I’m all in— essential oil candle lit, robe ready, exfoliating like it’s a spa appointment. Other days? I just want the benefits without the extra steps. And since I refuse to give up that caffeinated glow, I went searching for a faster, easier way to infuse my routine with a little coffeehouse magic.

Bold, sweet, and perfectly balanced, coffee bath bombs are a fresh twist on your favorite cold brew. Made with real coffee grounds, my cozy coffeehouse essential oil blend, and topped with whole coffee beans, they’re nothing like your average bath bomb. It’s like your latte cold foam turned into a hot, fizzing espresso bath soak.

And this fresh-brewed hack couldn’t be easier to use!

Starting with a simple bath bomb base, each one is infused with just the right espresso-inspired aroma and finished with a single coffee bean on top—because details matter. And they’re as easy to use as a K-Cup, but way more satisfying.

If you’re ready to drop, fizz, & relax, then stick with me. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to brew up your own batch with easy, step-by-step instructions and tips for getting that perfectly caffeinated scent in your bath. Fair warning: once you try one with an iced coffee in the tub, your Monday mornings may never recover.

So, let’s turn your bathtub into your favorite corner café!

How Do You Scent Bath Bombs with a True Coffee Scent?

The first step to creating the espresso bath of our dreams is building the scent. And if there’s one thing I enjoy most about making essential oil bath bombs (or any DIY essential oil recipe, really), it’s customizing the aroma!

Here’s the thing: relying on a single essential oil is rarely enough—especially with coffee. Coffee essential oil on its own is lovely, but it doesn’t quite capture that full coffeehouse experience. Just like your favorite latte, it needs layers.

For bath bombs, you’ll typically need 12–20 total drops of essential oil per batch, depending on how strong you’d like the scent. For these coffee bath bombs, I adapted my Coffee House diffuser blend and tweaked it specifically for bath time. It’s packed with just the right balance of bold, sweet, and cozy notes to recreate that fresh-brewed café feeling—no barista required.

Coffee Essential Oil Blend Recipe:

10 drops of coffee essential oil

6 drops of vanilla essential oil

4 drops of clove essential oil

Coffee essential oil brings that deep, roasted aroma we all love. Vanilla softens it with a creamy warmth, and clove adds a gentle, cozy spice that rounds everything out beautifully. Infused into homemade bath bombs, this blend makes it all too easy to turn an ordinary soak into a comforting coffeehouse escape—minus the commute and awkward chairs.

Coffee Essential Oil Bath Bomb Recipe (with Real Coffee Grounds)

It’s time to savor the rich, essential oil blend of coffee we created in an easy bath bomb recipe. We’re adding freshly ground coffee beans for a fun, speckled texture in the fizz, plus a subtle caffeinated boost to your bath soaks.

While the amount of real coffee in this recipe won’t replace your morning cup of joe, it does offer a mildly energizing effect and brings some lovely skincare benefits. Did you know coffee is naturally rich in antioxidants and gently exfoliates, helping to smooth the skin? Yep, it definitely makes me feel refreshed and revived after soaking.

Trust me, as one of these bath bombs fizz away, the warm coffeehouse aroma fills the steam, and suddenly your bathroom feels more like your favorite quiet café corner. I highly recommend bringing your iced coffee into the tub (no judgment here).

Let’s gather your ingredients and brew up your own batch!

Here’s What You’ll Need

How to Make Coffee Bath Bombs with Essential Oils

Prepare Wet Ingredients:

Add all the essential oils to two teaspoons of fractionated coconut oil in a separate, small glass bowl.

Prepare Dry Ingredients:

With the aid of a sifter, sift one cup of baking soda and ⅛ teaspoon of cornstarch into a large glass or stainless steel mixing bowl. Then add ½ cup of citric acid to the bowl. Next, add 3 tablespoons of ground coffee. I used a coffee grinder to freshly grind whole beans. Then whisk ingredients together to remove any clumps.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

Slowly pour the bowl of wet ingredients into the dry mixture, whisking as you go. If it begins to fizz or foam, slow down.

Test the mixture by scooping a small amount of it into your hand and squeezing to test the consistency. (You want it to stick together and hold its shape.) If it doesn’t hold the shape – add ½ teaspoon of witch hazel or water. Then mix well and test again. Repeat until you have the correct bath bomb consistency.

Form Bath Bombs:

Generously scoop the mixture into one-half of a bath bomb mold. Place a few whole coffee beans into the other half of the bath bomb mold. The scoop it into the mixture until it’s overflowing, press the halves together, and twist. Allow the bath bomb to sit in the mold for 2 minutes.

Fill another bath bomb mold, then come back to the first. Gently release it onto a cutting board or cookie sheet. (If a bath bomb cracks or crumbles while removing it, scoop more mixture into the molds and press them together again.)

Once you’ve formed all your coffee bath bombs, allow them to dry uncovered for 8 hours or overnight. Then store in a container or dry place until use.
