How Do You Make Homemade Whipped Soap?

I was surprised to discover learning how to make homemade whipped soap is fairly easy! All it requires to make whipped soap is a mixer and a few ingredients.

What are the ingredients for whipped soap?

Foaming Bath Butter

This DIY whipped soap starts with a foaming bath butter base, commonly known as a whipped soap base. No lye, hot oils, or gloves needed, when you start with this!

Not only that, whipped soap can be as easily customized as melt and pour soap! (AFF LINK) So, you can create a variety of whipped soaps with small changes to the recipe.

Shea Butter

Incorporating shea butter into the soap gives way to a light buttery scent and an incredible moisturizer. You’ll notice how soft your skin feels after using this whipped soap!

Sweet Almond Oil

Adding sweet almond oil makes the whipped soap even creamier and adds a gentle almond scent.

Vitamin E Oil

You’ll increase the bubble factor of whipped soap by including vitamin E oil. As well as, adding another layer of moisturizer to the skin.

Gold Mica Powder

This ingredient is totally optional, but how can we make magical soap without a little sparkle? Gold mica powder warms up the color of the soap to a buttery caramel shade.

How Do You Make A Butterbeer Scent?

To make a Harry Potter butterbeer scent I began by looking at what’s in butterbeer. A Beautiful Mess shares an excellent butterbeer recipe with an old-fashioned cream soda base whipped foam topping, and a buttery caramel drizzle.

I chose ginger essential oil and vanilla essential oil to match the sweetness of cream soda and whipped cream. Then I added caraway seed essential oil to mimic a drizzle of caramel.

It smells as good as the butterbeer served in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios!

For this soap recipe, I needed 1 ml of fragrance. When I looked at my essential oil conversion chart, I could see that 1 milliliter contains approximately 20 drops.

So, I adapted this butterbeer recipe from my Harry Potter diffuser blends:

Butterbeer

  • 12 drops ginger essential oil
  • 6 drops vanilla essential oil
  • 2 drops caraway seed essential oil

You’ll feel like you’re holding a mug of butterbeer with Hagrid at The Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade from the scene in The Prisoner of Azkaban with this recipe. After all, it’s the most magically delicious brew!

Here’s What You’ll Need

How to Make Whipped Soap Butterbeer Mugs

Step 1.

Scoop 6 ounces of a foaming bath butter base into a medium glass mixing bowl. (Utilize a digital kitchen scale for precise measurements.) Whip the base for 3 to 5 minutes with a handheld mixer. It will get easier to whip as it fluffs up.

Step 2.

When the base is whipped and fluffy add 1 ounce of shea butter, ¾ an ounce of sweet almond oil, and a ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil. Whip the ingredients for another 3 to 5 minutes. The soap will expand and nearly fill the bowl.

Step 3.

Next add essential oils for a butterbeer scent: 12 drops of ginger, 6 drops of vanilla, and 2 drops of caraway seed. (If you’re missing one of these, see the substitutes I shared.) Whip them into the mixture for 2 minutes.

Step 4.

Then, add ⅛ teaspoon of gold mica powder for color. Whip it into the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 5.

Now, with everything fully combined, insert a piping tip ( I used #413) into a piping bag and scoop the whipped soap inside the bag. (Don’t have a piping bag? Use a gallon-size Ziploc bag and snip a small hole in the tip of a corner.)

Step 6.

Squeeze from the top of the bag and twist down toward the opening with the piping tip. Pipe the soap into each mini glass mug in a circular motion. (The amber glass mugs I used from Hobby Lobby are currently out of stock.) This will create the appearance of whipped foam topping a mug of magical butterbeer!
