What Are The Scents Associated With Harry Potter?

With so many Harry Potter characters, rooms in Hogwarts, and iconic places, such as The Three Broomsticks, it’s easy to get lost in the scents associated with Harry Potter.

So, I pulled my best Heromine study session and discovered the scents that stood out. Then I used an essential oil blending wheel that helps us understand the relationships between different aromas and how our brain processes them, to categorize scents for each Hogwarts House. And build each blend I share in the printables below.

Fun Ways To Diffuse Harry Potter Essential Oil Blends

If you’re a first-year when it comes to diffusing essential oils, don’t sweat it. All you need is one of these diffuser methods to infuse your study space, kitchen, hut, manor, or favorite place to binge-watch Harry Potter movies!

Ultrasonic Diffuser

We’ll start with the most popular device to diffuse essential oils. An ultrasonic diffuser uses water and ultrasonic vibrations to disperse essential oils into the air as a fine mist. Sounds like a magic trick from the Weasely Twins, right?

Travel Diffuser

Now, if you’re departing Platform 9 ¾ on the Hogwarts Express, you’ll need a diffuser that’s designed for travel! So, why not make your own travel diffuser with these quick tips?

Diffuser Stones

I’m certain Hufflepuffs can’t resist the chance to mold terracotta clay into diffusers. These porous stones absorb essential oils and release their fragrance slowly over time. Check out this tutorial for handmade diffuser stones.

Reed Diffuser

Another trick is to create a reed diffuser! Fill a small bottle or vase with an essential oil Harry Potter blend and a carrier oil. Then place reed sticks into the mixture. The reeds will absorb the oil and release the scent into the room gradually. Check out this DIY reed diffuser tutorial to give it a try!

Tea Light Diffuser

If your favorite Defensive of the Dark Arts spell is Incendio, the Fire-Making Spell: A charm that conjures a jet of flames but can also be used to light candles and torches – then you’ll like this option. An essential oil tea light diffuser uses the gentle flame of a tea light to warm an essential oil blend and disperse its aroma. Here’s how I make tea lights for warmers.

Where’s The Best Place To Put A Diffuser?

With all these options you can diffuse essential oils almost anywhere. Be it your common room a.k.a the family room, kitchen, or library nook.

It’s not about decor, it’s about choosing the best place to reap the aromatherapy benefits. So, take a moment to think about where you and yours frequently spend time.

Here is a list of some of the best places to put a diffuser:

  • Bedroom Night Stand
  • Kitchen Island
  • Bathroom Vanity
  • Coffee Bar
  • Office Credenza
  • Theater Room Bar
  • Reading Nook

Once you’ve found the perfect location, store the essential oils you will use most often there. (I share several storage tips for oils here and in the Oily Chic Lookbook.) And why not display the Harry Potter essential oil blend charts nearby?
